STAFF RESOURCES
Full-time staff at GPI includes geotechnical and civil engineers, field and laboratory technicians, and support staff. The full-time staff is complemented by experienced consulting geologists and geophysicists. All projects are managed by a Principal or Associate of the firm, offering combined experience of over 100 years of in geotechnical engineering consulting practice. As such, we commit principal-level involvement in every project from the design phase through construction. An overview of the key staff experience is presented below:

Donald Cords, G.E. (donc@gpi-ca.com)
Associate
Mr. Cords has over 20 years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering and construction.  His experience includes the design and construction of retail centers, parking structures, commercial buildings, light rail transit lines, highways, bridges, airport pavements, tunnel instrumentation, and waterfront improvements.  Mr. Cords has managed several large contracts with the U.S. Navy, Army Corps of Engineers, City of Los Angeles, and transit agencies.  Mr. Cords is a Registered Civil and Geotechnical Engineer in California and holds Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Texas A&M University, respectively.

James E. Harris, G.E. (jimh@gpi-ca.com)
Principal
Mr. Harris has over 26 years of diverse geotechnical experience in the Southern California area. He has managed and performed foundation engineering and geo-environmental studies and construction-phase services for a variety of projects, including large public works projects, large commercial projects, high-rise buildings, hotels, shopping centers, water storage and distribution facilities, military installations, and numerous other public and private sector projects. Mr. Harris is a Registered Civil and Geotechnical Engineer in California and holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from California State University, Long Beach.

Byron Konstantinidis, G.E. (byronk@gpi-ca.com)
Principal
Mr. Konstantinidis has over 36 years of experience in geotechnical consulting practice. He has directed geotechnical engineering studies and provided construction-phase consultations for a wide variety of projects, including several major transportation projects, major power generation, transmission, and distribution facilities, multi-story office complexes, hotels, shopping centers, port and harbor developments, residential developments, water storage and distribution facilities, military installations, schools, hospitals, and miscellaneous public works. He has published several technical papers related to drilled piers, large structure foundations, in-situ testing methods and borehole geophysics, in the proceedings of the National Conventions of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Mr. Konstantinidis is a Registered Civil and Geotechnical Engineer in California and holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from Robert College and the University of New Mexico.

Paul Schade, G.E. (pauls@gpi-ca.com)
Principal
Mr. Schade has over 19 years of geotechnical engineering experience focused in Southern California. He has served as Principal Engineer and Project Manager for low-to-high rise buildings (several over 20 stories), parking structures, hospitals, courthouses, sports arenas and stadiums, educational facilities, airports, pipelines, entertainment facilities, cathedrals and churches, landfills, bridges, roadways, and forensic studies. He has published papers related to pile load testing in Civil Engineering Magazine and the proceedings of the ASCE Structures Congress. Mr. Schade is a Registered Civil and Geotechnical Engineer in California and holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and California State University, Long Beach.

FACILITIES

The GPI office is located in western Orange County, close to three freeways, providing convenient access to projects throughout Southern California.

The in-house Laboratory facility is equipped to perform all standard geotechnical tests on soil samples, related to index and physical properties, compressibility, shear and compressive strength. The laboratory is a City of Los Angeles Certified Testing Agency and is subject to rigorous calibration and quality control requirements.
